    • 3.2 Safety and Survival Techniques
      • Vessel Accident & Emergency Prevention: Common accidents (capsizing, collisions, grounding, engine breakdown), environmental hazards (hypothermia, sea sickness), vessel fire hazards, and pre-departure inspection checklists.
      • Emergency & Survival Equipment: Procedures for inspecting, donning, and adjusting personal flotation devices (life jackets, life buoys); deploying inflatable life rafts and throwing lines; operating VHF radios (MAYDAY calls), visual signaling flares, and portable marine fire extinguishers using the PASS technique.
      • Mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Inspecting waterproof oilskins, safety boots, and heavy gloves for commercial fishing crews.
      • Aquatic Survival & Water Rescue: Tread floating, energy conservation, defensive swimming strokes, Heat Escape Lessening Posture (HELP), group huddle thermal positions, and evacuation clear of submerged nets/sinking hulls.
      • Marine First Aid Administration: First aid priorities (DRABC), marine first aid kit contents, controlling severe bleeding with direct pressure bandages, treating thermal engine/chemical burns, immobilizing fractured limbs with splints/slings, performing CPR manikin compressions (30:2 ratio), gradual hypothermia rewarming, and improvising boat gear for medical emergencies.
