  This document presents the detailed Term 2 2026 PP2 Mathematics instructional framework.

  • Number of Weeks: 14 (The schedule spans Weeks 1 to 14. Out of the 14 weeks, Week 8 is reserved for mid-assessments and the mid-term break, and Weeks 13 to 14 are dedicated to revision and end of Term 2 assessments).

  It covers the following strands and sub-strands:

  • NUMBERS (Weeks 1-6)
    • Number sequencing
      • Identify, write, and read number symbols 1-30.
      • Arrange number cards in sequence and find the missing numbers in a pattern.
    • Number value
      • Name and collect play objects in the school environment.
      • Read numbers 1-20 in symbols and match them with corresponding quantities of objects.
    • Number writing
      • Form number symbols 1-20 by joining dots, writing on surfaces, and in the air.
      • Identify and use number symbols found on items in the school environment.
    • Putting together
      • Identify groups of similar objects and put them together to get sums not exceeding 9.
      • Identify the addition sign (+) and work out related sums.
    • Taking away
      • Count objects, take away up to 9 objects, and identify the subtraction sign (-).
      • Take away all objects in a group to notice that "zero" remains, and work out taking away sums.
  • MEASUREMENT (Weeks 6-12)
    • Sides of objects
      • Identify and collect concrete objects found in the market.
      • Measure and compare sides of objects, identifying those with long and short sides.
    • Mass (heavy and light)
      • Collect concrete objects and use a see-saw to compare heavy and light items.
    • Capacity
      • Collect containers of different sizes and compare them by filling and emptying.
      • Outline safety measures to take when handling water containers.
    • Time (Daily routine)
      • Identify tools for telling time and outline vocabulary related to time (morning, noon, evening).
      • Compare shadow sizes at different times and identify daily activities.
      • Arrange flashcards to identify the days of the week and months of the year.
    • Money (Kenyan currency coins)
      • Identify and observe different Kenyan coins (Ksh. 1, 5, 10, 20).
      • Count money in one-shilling coins up to 20 and trace different coins on paper.
