  The scheme of work is developed using the KLB Lower Primary Mathematics Pupil’s Book 2 and Teacher’s Guide as the primary learning resources.   The topics covered throughout the term include:

  • Whole Numbers and Operations: Reading, writing, and representing numbers up to 100 using counters and charts, identifying place values of ones and tens, writing number symbols and words up to 20, completing number patterns in 2s, and solving vertical addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers with regrouping.
  • Multiplication and Division: Multiplying single-digit numbers by 10 through repeated addition, grouping objects in equal sets, and dividing quantities up to 25 by 2, 3, 4, and 5 without remainders.
  • Fractions: Folding circular and rectangular paper cut-outs to model, shade, compare, and identify half (1/2) and quarter (1/4) of a whole, and forming halves using quarters.
  • Measurement: Making 1-metre sticks to measure objects in the classroom and at home, measuring mass in kilograms using 1-kg containers, measuring container capacities in litres using 1-litre bottles, reading time by the hour on digital and analogue clocks, and carrying out buying and selling role-plays with money sums up to sh. 100.
  • Geometry: Drawing straight and curved lines with rulers and strings, and designing repeating geometric patterns using rectangles, triangles, squares, circles, and ovals.

  Assessment methods include oral questions, written exercises, and practical observation during measuring, folding, and model shop role-plays.
