  The scheme of work is guided by the KLB Lower Primary Mathematics Grade 3 pupil's book and teacher's guide, utilizing concrete teaching aids including number cards, place value tins and charts, abacuses, counters, metre rules, Kenyan currency coins and notes, clock faces, and classroom shop items.

  • Fractions
    • Eighth (1/8) as part of a group
  • Measurement
    • Length: Adding and subtracting length in metres
    • Mass: Adding and subtracting mass in kilograms
    • Capacity: Adding, subtracting, and estimating capacity in litres (up to 5 litres)
    • Time: Adding and subtracting time in hours and minutes, estimating time, and reading "past" and "to" the hour
    • Money: Converting denominations up to Sh. 1000, creating shopping lists, and calculating balance
  • Geometry
    • Modelling combined shapes from environmental materials

  The topics covered throughout the term include:

  • Ordinal Numbers and Place Value: Identifying positions 1st to 20th in symbols and words through races, counting in tens up to 1000 forward and backward, and completing missing numbers in patterns.
  • Addition and Subtraction: Adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers horizontally and vertically with single regrouping across ones, tens, and hundreds using abacuses and place value apparatus.
  • Multiplication, Division, and Fractions: Multiplying numbers by 10 through multiplication tables, solving division problems without remainders as repeated subtraction, and dividing sets of objects into eighths (1/8).
  • Measurement Operations: Performing real-life additions and subtractions involving length (metres), mass (kilograms), capacity (litres), and estimating liquid volume up to 5 litres.
  • Time and Money: Adding and subtracting time in hours and minutes without conversion, reading clock faces using "past" and "to", converting money denominations up to Sh. 1000, and role-playing shopping scenarios in a classroom shop.
  • Geometry: Identifying 2D shapes in the local environment and constructing combined geometric models using local materials.
