  This is the pharmacology course that makes clinical practice make sense. The autacoids section opens with histamine (H1, H2, H3 receptor actions in a full table — the foundation for understanding allergies, antihistamines, and peptic ulcer treatment), serotonin (gut, platelets, CNS, and clinical relevance for carcinoid syndrome and ondansetron), the eicosanoid pathway (the COX and LOX branches, where NSAIDs and corticosteroids act, and why aspirin prevents clotting while indomethacin reduces fever), leukotrienes (the mechanism behind asthma — and why montelukast works), platelet activating factor, bradykinin (and why ACE inhibitors cause a dry cough), and angiotensin II with the full RAAS cascade. The digestive pharmacology section covers antacids, H2 blockers, PPIs (including H. pylori triple therapy — PPI, clarithromycin, amoxicillin), prostaglandin analogues (misoprostol), sucralfate, antispasmodics and prokinetics (metoclopramide and domperidone with their differing side-effect profiles), a full antiemetic table across five drug classes (H1, D2, 5-HT3, NK1, anticholinergics), ORS and zinc for diarrhoea, loperamide, a four-class laxative table, IV fluids (normal saline, Ringer's lactate, dextrose in a comparison table), enteral feeds, and vitamins.
