The exam paper, titled "CREATIVE ARTS AND SPORTS (Project) Paper 1," is an integrated project-based assessment. It is designed to be undertaken by learners over a period of 3 months (specifically mentioned as Term II, May to August). Learners are expected to work with the guidance of their teacher, and the assessment scores from this project will contribute to their final summative assessment in the Creative Arts and Sports subject. Assessment is conducted in phases using provided scoring guides and rubrics, which learners should be allowed to access.

The overarching theme of the project is a "Cultural Harmony Celebration," an event aimed at bringing the school community together to appreciate cultural diversity through creative expression and cooperative activities.

The project is divided into four main tasks, encompassing Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Music, Dance, Theatre), and Sports:

    • Task 1: Visual Arts - Decorative Elements and Props
      • Learners are to individually research art forms and symbols from different cultures, producing notes and sketches to conceptualize ideas for decorations and/or props that reflect the theme of cultural diversity and harmony. These preliminary works are to be included in an assessment portfolio.
      • Each learner is required to create at least two decorative elements or props (e.g., banners, cultural masks, symbolic representations, decorative hangings). A variety of available materials such as paper, fabric, recycled items, paint, and clay can be used. Computer applications may also be utilized for design elements.
      • The created pieces will be assessed on their connection to the "Cultural Harmony" theme, appropriate use of color schemes and cultural symbols, neatness and finishing, and suitability for display or use as props.
      • Learners will also set up a section of the exhibition area during the celebration to display their created decorations and props.
    • Task 2: Music and Dance - Performance
      • Select a piece of music or dance (either traditional or a fusion piece) from any community that represents cultural harmony. The performance should last 2-3 minutes.
      • Train the chosen piece with a group of 8-12 members, paying attention to authenticity, vocal delivery/musicality, coordinated movements (choreography, technique, synchrony), appropriate instrumentation/accompaniment, and relevant costumes, props, and body adornments.
      • Prepare a written synopsis of the selected piece, detailing the culture(s) it's drawn from, type of music/dance, traditional occasion or relevance to the theme, summary of the message/story, and significance of costumes/props.
      • Take a lead role in the presentation (e.g., lead dancer, soloist, instrumentalist).
      • Ensure the group performance adheres to elements like stage presence, energy, expression, artistic passion, concentration, and expressiveness.
      • The group will perform the selected music/dance piece during the "Cultural Harmony Celebration."
    • Task 3: Theatre - Short Theatrical Piece
      • In groups, brainstorm ideas for a short theatrical piece (skit or mime) inspired by themes of cultural harmony, understanding, or cooperation.
      • Individually or in pairs, develop an outline and script (or mime sequence) for a 2-3 minute performance.
      • The piece should have a clear beginning, middle, and end, define character(s) and setting, and convey a coherent message related to cultural harmony.
      • The performance will be assessed on clarity of message/story, vocal delivery (if applicable) and/or physical expression, gestures and body language, facial expressions, and audience engagement.
      • Perform the theatrical piece during the celebration.
    • Task 4: Sports - Cooperative Sport or Team-Building Game
      • Learners, in small teams of 3-5 members, are to choose a cooperative sport or team-building game (examples provided include Cooperative Challenges, Group Obstacle Course, or adapted standard sports like Volleyball or Basketball).
      • Exploration and Presentation: Research the chosen activity through discussions, videos, observation, and how sports/games can promote cooperation. Present findings in a format of choice (oral, written, pictorial, digital, etc.).
      • Preparation: Improvise necessary materials for the activity.
      • Participation: Organize and participate in the activity, focusing on fostering teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship among diverse participants.
      • Analysis: Identify how participation in such cooperative sports/games can build bridges between people from different backgrounds.
      • Reflection: Reflect on personal performance, team dynamics, and the application of learned cooperative skills.
      • During the "Cultural Harmony Celebration," the team will demonstrate or facilitate one of the selected cooperative sports or team-building games, involving attendees.
