    The curriculum emphasises practical and hands-on learning using locally available materials and real-life situations. Learners develop competencies such as counting and operating numbers up to 100, addition and subtraction with regrouping, introduction to multiplication and division, understanding halves and quarters, measuring length (metres), mass (kilograms) and capacity (litres), reading calendars and time by the hour, using Kenyan currency up to KSh 100, and identifying and drawing lines and basic shapes. The design also provides detailed performance-based assessment rubrics, guidance on use of digital devices, financial literacy, environmental awareness, safety and community engagement to support holistic learner development and smooth transition to Grade 3.
