  The PDF document comprises Grade 1 Rationalized Kiswahili Language Activities Curriculum Design.

  This is a Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) design developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). The curriculum was first published in 2017 and revised in 2024 following curriculum rationalisation based on the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.

    • Sarufi – Matumizi ya “Mimi” na “Sisi” (3 lessons)
  • Strand 2.0: Familia
    • Kusikiliza na Kuzungumza – Matamshi Bora (Sauti: /m/, /a/, /u/, /k/, /t/, /l/) (3 lessons)
    • Kusoma – Kusoma kwa Ufasaha (3 lessons)
    • Kuandika – Hati Nadhifu (Herufi Kubwa) (3 lessons)
    • Sarufi – Umoja na Wingi wa Majina (3 lessons)
  • Strand 3.0: Tarakimu
    • Kusikiliza na Kuzungumza – Maneno ya Adabu na Heshima (3 lessons)
    • Kusoma – Kusoma kwa Ufahamu (3 lessons)
    • Kuandika – Hati Nadhifu (Herufi Ndogo) (3 lessons)
    • Sarufi – Matumizi ya “Huyu” na “Hawa” (3 lessons)
  • Strand 4.0: Siku za Wiki
    • Kusikiliza na Kuzungumza – Matamshi Bora (Sauti: /n/, /o/, /w/, /e/, /i/, /h/) (3 lessons)
    • Kusoma – Kusoma kwa Ufasaha (3 lessons)
    • Kuandika – Hati Nadhifu (Kuunganisha Silabi na Nafasi kati ya Herufi) (3 lessons)
    • Sarufi – Umoja na Wingi wa Majina (3 lessons)

  The curriculum is organized thematically to support meaningful language learning in familiar contexts such as classroom, family, numbers and daily life. It also provides detailed performance-based assessment guidelines, integration of values such as respect, responsibility and cooperation, and emphasis on the use of digital resources, real-life experiences and interactive activities to enhance early Kiswahili literacy and communication skills.
