  This is a Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) design developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). The curriculum was first published in 2021 and revised in 2024 to align with curriculum rationalisation and recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.

  The curriculum is delivered through thematic contexts such as Home, School, Good Manners, Personal Hygiene, and Time (day, week and months) to enhance meaningful language use. It also provides detailed performance-based assessment rubrics, guidance on integration of cultural awareness, social cohesion, health education and environmental conservation, as well as suggested resources including charts, flashcards, digital content and community-based learning experiences to support holistic learner development.
